Two big ambitious projects are ready to hit box-office this festive season- Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Saawariya’ and SRK and Farah Khan’s ‘Om Shanti Om’. Taking a close look at them, one realizes that both are following the same marketing target via different routes.
For ‘Saawariya’, there is a rumour going round that RK Banner’s next big hope, Ranbir Kapoor, will be seen prancing around in a see-through white towel (how RK-ish, remember all those RK heroines wet and white?). As for ‘Om Shanti Om’, everyone is quite aware of SRK’s shirtless ‘Dard-e-disco’ and flaunting six-pack abs.
Both the movies have a new female face and where Sonam Kapoor was forbidden to show her face before SLB gave the green signal, Shah Rukh’s co-star Deepika Padukone’s celebrity face was too well-known to be kept in ‘Purdah’.
Also both the directors have kept mum about their basic storyline. Only producer SRK and director Farah Khan are so friendly and fun-loving and Bhansali is so brusque and bristly that one tends to put them both in different categories.
Well, whatever the marketing approach may be, with Ranbir Kapoor’s butt versus SRK’s shirless abs, the box-office this festive season will have fireworks for sure.

Saawariya seems more like my movie even with the religious undertones but I’m more excited for Om Shanti Om even with the theme of reincarnation.

This has generated a lot of heat. Farah Khan’s statement commenting on the mother of Sanjay Leela Bhansali has added fuel to the fire. The two camps have their battle lines clearly drawn.
While SLB has a history of making sensible and sensitive films like Khamoshi, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Black as well beautiful canvassed films like Devdas, Farah Khan has a single hit in Main Hoon Na and has Shahrukh Khan on her side. With Saawariya, SLB has intoduced two new actors and the strength of this film lies in the fact that the trailers have revealed nothing and they look beautiful.
The suspense factor is on. The music has also been soothing and the risk factor here is that SLB has opted for Monty rather than his earlier favourite Ismail Durbar. Om Shanti Om is a full entertainer as Farah likes it that way and has star value. The music of Vishal Shekhar is good and is already a chart buster.
This reminds me of the situation when Saagar of Ramesh Sippy and Ram Teri Ganga Maili of Raj Kapoor were released at the same time. Saagar had a big star cast of Rishi ,Dimple and Kamal Hassan with Ramesh Sippy and RK had newcomers in Rajiv and Mandakini. Music of both the films was good. But ultimately RTGM was a hit.
Cut to present! The scene is the same. The only reason why Om Shanti Om can be a hit is Shahrukh. Otherwise I would tilt the scales in favour of Saawariya. The freshness, the suspense factor of the actors and the storyline not being revealed and the slow and steady attitude of the production all are the reasons for this .
Om Shanti Om is loud, highly publicized, the storyline is known and SRKs productions have not dome well like Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani and Paheli. If freshness wins Bollywood will get new stars. If star value wins then the present trend continues. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

LTHOUGH I AGREE THAT SHAHRUKH IS A GOOD ACTOR, BUT ITS A TRUE FACT THAT, SAAWARIYA IS A CLASSICAL MOVIE DIRECTED BY SANJAYJI, W/ TWO PROMISING NEWCOMERS, BUT OM SH. OM IS THE “CHEAP AND “MURGA CHAP BIDI” KIND OF MOVIE”. OM SH. OM’S STORY IS A ROTTEN & OLD ONE. ALTHOUGH SHAHRUKH HAS TRIED HIS BEST TO BECOME HRITIK ROSHAN, JOHN ABRAHAM, AND SALMAN KHAN BY EXPOSING HIS BODY, BUT LOOKING LIKE A J…O….K….E….R, ONLY, ITS SO F…U…N…N…Y TO SEE THAT SRK IS TRYING TO DECLARE HIMSELF THE BEST IN BOLLYWOOD. SRK IS A “BUDDHI GHORI W/ LAAL LAGAM NOW”. WE ARE TIRED TO SEE SHAHRUKH NOW.
SAAWARIYA’S MUSIC IS CLASSICAL, TOO LIKE THE SWEET MOVIE. SO THIS MUSIC HAS BECOME MORE AND MORE POPULAR COMPARED TO OM SH. OM. NOW WE ARE WAITING FOR THE CLASSICAL MOVIE. ALL THE BEST TO SANJAY BHANSALIJI, RANBIRJI & SONAMJI, FOR SAAWARIYA.

I’m glad bollywood is taking an active role in promoting Dharma, hopefully they get rid of the smut and have more Hinduism themed moves, it’ll make the world a more peaceful place.
