Pieterson auctioned on $1.55 million, the highest bid in IPL


Andrew Flintoff and Batsman Kevin Pieterson, respectively, for the IPL teams Chennai Super Kings and the Bangalore Royal Challengers won the highest paid auction of DLF Indian Premier League held at Goa on Friday 6th February 2009. Both the players would earn $1.55 million U.S Dollars.
Flintoff, being the player of the English cricket team was named the captain of the English National Cricket team. He was the vice-captain of the England team during 2007 Cricket World Cup. The highest paid player Kevin Pietersen also is from the National Cricket Team of England. Bangalore Royal Challengers has very stakes on Pieterson as the Club was 4-10 down in the last edition of Indian Premiere League.  He even outplayed the captain of the Bangalore Royal Challengers’ captain Rahul Dravid in terms of the payment.
Other highly paid players of this DLF league on this auction happened to be Jean Paul Duminy of South Africa who cracked the deal with Mumbai Indians on $950,000. Bangladeshi pace bowler Mashrafe Bin Mortaza was the surprise of the auction that was procured by Kolkata Knight Riders for a bid of $600,000.  The selection of Mortaza by Shahrukh Khan the owner of Knight Riders is seen as poly to get the backing of Bangladeshi fans for the Knight Riders.
Lalit Modi, the chairman and DLF Indian Premier League Commissioner was quite happy over this auction, he said, “This was a very strategic auction with each franchise knowing exactly what they wanted in terms of international talent to strengthen their playing squads. I look forward to the prodigious talents of Pietersen and Flintoff making their debuts in Season II for the Bangalore Royal Challengers and Chennai. I am certain now more than ever that fans across Indian and indeed the world are in for an exciting second season.”
In the auction, Shilpa Shetty too who is 12 percent stake holder in Rajasthan Royals sighed South African all-rounder Tyron Henderson and Australian bowler Shaun Tait signed for a combined $975,000.
