Aishwarya Rai has been attending the Cannes film festival since 2002 as the global face of L`Oreal but drew critical applauds only last year when she wore a white off-shoulder Roberto Cavalli. This year, though her outfit was impressive but her puffy hairdo got some her some negative compliments as well.
The actress who won the hearts of millions this year with her very first red carpet appearance at the Cannes International Film Festival was the 24-year-old Deepika Padukone who looked stunningly elegant in her off white, slightly embroidered saree with touches of gold, with a broad hand cuff, Kundan earrings and a stone encrusted clutch. Deepika is attending the event as the face of liquor brand Chivas Regal.
Take a look at what various designers have to say about her traditional look as compared to Ash’s western outfit:
“She was wearing a saree and I think that`s an appropriate outfit for any Indian diva walking an international platform. It was a nice off-white saree with a sexy blouse, making the look exude a good amount of glitz and glamour,” said designer Charu Parashar.
Designer Nida Mahmood said: “Deepika is a beautiful woman and was looking stunning in a saree. It`s a very nice outfit that brings out the real form of a woman. It`s sensual and elegant and if you can carry it well it makes you look awesome.”
Rohit Bal, who designed Deepika`s look for the event, had said: “As a designer, who has been observing fashion since the last 25 years, I think the only one super star at this time at Cannes is going to be Deepika Padukone. There`s nobody better than Deepika to break the rules and it`s going to attract a lot of attention.”
Designer Kapil and Monika say, “Aishwarya Rai’s beautiful gown’s colour matched her skin tone, but the hair do was a turn off. She’s got a fuller face and a high hairdo highlighted its roundness. The neatness of the hairstyle is also questionable.” Designer Reynu Tandon also feels her hairstyle is dated but Ash looked good overall, “Her hair isn’t stylised as per 2010 trends but it is suiting her face,” says the designer.
“Deepika gets thumbs up as she knows what looks good on her. Keeping it traditional is a very good idea. When it comes to international events like Cannes, it is always safe to keep away from experiments and sari has a modern yet traditional charm to it,” says Ekta Bhardwaj, creative writer with a fashion magazine.
Whereas designers Kapil and Monica feel, “Deepika’s make-up for Cannes was extremely garish making her look a tone darker than her actual complexion, her sari had no element of glam, and was wrongly accessorised with gold jewellery.”

Bollywood is heading for another splitsville and this time it is actor Arshad Warsi and wife Maria who have been together for over a decade now. The reason is the same old one- the entry of a third person in a happy marriage. Apparently, Arshad’s linkup with Dia Mirza had been disturbing Maria and time and again, news of trouble in their relationship kept cropping up. Although, the couple seemed to have compromised on the issue in the past, but the problem has resurfaced again, this time more vehemently. As such, The couple has called for quits and Arshad has moved out of his Yari Road house after a fight with Maria and is presently staying in a flat at Andheri. Arshad moved out before reaching the sets of Golmaal 3 in Goa where he is currently shooting. Their two children are with Maria.
Though this is not the first one in the tinsel town, the breakup definitely came as a surprise for the friends and pals.

It was quite an eyeful when music maestro A.R.Rahman came together with Bollywood’s reigning beauty Katrina Kaif. The occasion was the launch of ‘Rhymeskool’ in Mumbai, the music album of nursery rhymes for kids released under Sa Re Ga Ma. The rhymes in the CD have been composed by Rahman and rendered by Katrina Kaif.
The master Rahman expressed his humble gratitude saying, “I want to thank Sa Re Ga Ma for trusting K.M.Music Conservatory with this project. I want to thank Selva who has been mentoring the kids, Johnny my band-mate and also all the staff, teachers from my school who have been working on this project. Shah Rukh Khan’s superhero costume in ‘Ra 1’ is worth Rs 1 crore. Silvery blue in color, the special suit is made of latex and was created specially for the actor in Los Angeles. However, getting into his hi-fi costume is not a kid’s play for the actor as getting into this thick rubber tight fitting is such a tedious job that it takes nearly 40 minutes. On top of this, the rubber suit sticks to his body and that makes the heat of Mumbai even more unbearable for the actor.
Also, since getting in and out of the suit is such a tedious job, the actor restricts his trip to the restroom only once during the shooting shift. Given that the shift usually extends to 10-12 hours everyday, one has to admit it is quite painful. Well, the actor surely believes in the saying that ‘only pains lead to gains’.
Cannes Film Festival in French Riviera had every essence of Bollywood on Wednesday as pretty Aishwarya Rai Bachchan impressed everyone with her style and poise as she attended the screening of Ridley Scott`s ‘Robin Hood’ on the opening day of the 12-day run of the 63rd edition of the festival which will run through May 23.
Aishwarya walked down the red carpet hand-in-hand with Eva Longoria Parker (Desperate Housewives) and blew gentle kisses in all directions and waved royally. She blended well with Parker.
Ash was there as a representative of L`Oreal and looked stunning in her flowing off-shoulder gown and a puff with minimal, delicate jewellery and a silver clutch. The 36-year-old Indian actress wore a violet blue fully embroidered tulle and mousseline gown from Elie Saab. The Bachchan Bahu will also be promoting her film ‘Raavan’ along with her star husband Abhishek.

‘Lamhaa’ will see the Bong beauty Bipasha Basu in a completely new makeover and style. The glam doll plays a modern politically active Kashmiri girl named ‘Aziza’ and has tried not only burkha but also green contact lenses for the role. The film has her in plain salwar kurtas with PT shoes, and a dupatta on her head.
Talking about her looks in the film, Bips says, “She is not dainty so don’t expect a Kashmir-ki-kali kind of look. I also wore lots of printed, colourful dupattas with plain earthy-coloured salwar kurtas. Everything was loose and oversized. I could wear nothing fitted in this film.”
Both burkha and green contact lenses are for the first time for Bips who says, “I wear green contact lenses for the film. I am used to wearing lenses in films but I have to say the green lenses looked really good. Rocky got me the burkha. I have never worn it ever before.”
Rocky S, who has designed Bipasha’s look in the film says, “Since the character is a complex strong individual my motive was to portray Aziza’s essence to the tee. My research included a lot of intricate detailing taking into consideration the kind of fabrics and colours that are preferred by Kashmiri locals.
Tweed phirans in dull earthy tones along with kurtas were used to show a clear distinction over the seasons through autumn to winter. Bipasha’s accessories and burkhas were authentically purchased from Kashmiri shops in and around Lal Chowk and Dal Lake.”

Abbas Tyrewala is not the first Hindi film director to launch his wife in a movie. But he is definitely the first one to shoot an intense sizzling smooch scene between wife and his co-stars.
Talking about Abbas’s ‘1-800-Love’, the movie stars Pakhi Tyrewala along with John Abraham. Talking about the intense scene, Abbas says, “The girl I was directing in the film was not my wife. She was the actress chosen because she suited the role.” He candidly admits, “Initially I was a little apprehensive. But once the camera rolled Pakhi and I forgot our personal relationship.”
John, too, emphasized on the importance of the scene and said, “It is an intensely romantic film. And the kiss is an integral part of romance. But the film is very clean, sweet and innocent.”
The story of this love story has been penned down by Pakhi herself and she admits that she had a massive crush on John in her younger college days. No wonder, the chemistry between the two is so sparking that even hubby Abbas had to admit it.
Says Abbas, “Pakhi and John share a tremendous chemistry on screen. And I’m glad! Imagine, if they looked incompatible or anything less than made for each other! What would have happened to my film?”

Post her marriage, Twinkle Khanna gave up acting, took up interior designing full time and has shied away from limelight since then. Besides just one ad for a soft drink many years back, and one photo shoot with hubby Akshay Kumar, Twinkle Khanna has not faced camera for some nine years now. Last seen in ‘Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega’ in 2001, Twinkle is now all set to face the camera for a commercial with Akki for the ad campaign of the cell phone brand he endorses. Twinkle was initially reluctant to do the commercial which, in all probability, will be directed by Anurag Basu. However, Akshay was totally convinced by the concept and convinced her to accept the proposal. Akshay has even asked her to consider doing more ads.
The Pakistani gun man Ajmal Kasab had taken the entire nation with the hatred vibe and Bollywood is now all set with its latest movie on Kasab which will hit the screens this May 28. Kasab has been sentenced to death last Thursday and the movie, too, shows Kasab being hanged to death. However, the climax of the movie was shot even before the death sentenced of Kasab was finalized. The film, which is titled ‘Ashok Chakra’ was ealier titled ‘Total Ten’.
“In our film also the terrorist is hanged. We didn’t know that Kasab will be sentenced to death. Keeping the public sentiment in mind, we shot the ‘hanging’ of the terrorist in our film, ” said Rajan Verma, who plays the lead in ‘Ashok Chakra’.
This 2.5 crore film is directed by S P Munishwar and produced by Sapna Films Production.

Even before the Hrithik Roshan- Barabara Mori starrer ‘Kites’ hits the screens, the movie is creating ripples enough about the sensuous and flirty scenes between the two actors, but the international version of the movie seems to have far bolder scenes than the desi version. The international one has a sizzling liplock between topless Barbara with Hrithik Roshan which is censored to the Indian audience. With Nandana Sen’s ‘Rang Rasiya’ already clearing off the censor with topless scenes, the question arises that do movie makers still doubt the maturity of Indian audience.
Payal Rohatgi, who is known for her ‘bold’ image says, “I think the Indian audience is not mature enough. Men download images to gratify themselves but movies are a different genre. Movies are meant for family watching and a raunchy promo will insure that family audiences don’t pull in. So movie makers are also vary,”
Film critic Taran Adarsh says, “At the click of the button you can access information. Technology cannot be curtailed. Anything can be seen online even if you try to keep it away from film prints.”

Hrithik Roshan has been in Bollywood for quite a few years now but never has the actor lost his cool before the media. But this time it was different. Hrithik had been in Sirdi with his family to pray for the success of his forthcoming “Kites”, but to his utter disappointment media refused to let him pray in peace and privacy. As such, the aghast actor reacted strongly.
“Visited Shirdi this morning, a family tradition before each release since decades. Dad, mom, Su (wife Sussane) and me. But today was different… it took effort to pray with 30 media cameras feeding off every private moment… tried to feel peace… couldn’t,” Hrithik posted on his Twitter page.
“Can’t believe they can now enter god’s shrine for TRPs (Television Rating Points). Polite words requesting (privacy) were ignored. Right now I’m trying to forgive myself for losing my cool. But I guess when it comes to family, any man would do the same,” he added.
However, Hrithik wishes that he could have been a bit more patient. “For d (the) first time in 10 years as an actor, today I felt my privacy being invaded. What they did was wrong. But I wish I could’ve risen above and given them all a big hug. We’re all human, we’re all the same. Only love can heal…,” the 36-year-old said.
Shah Rukh Khan sends his wishes to the actor saying, “I send you peace my friend. A piece of love… a piece of success and a large piece of life, love and light to you in abundance.”
