Celina Jaitley is one actress who has never been shy to express her feelings on homosexuality. She was the one who came out to launch the first official gay magazine in India and also had to face a lot of threats and abusive remarks for standing up for the gay community. Now that Article 377 has finally been nullified and homosexuality is legalized in India, she is definitely happy.
Here is what she had to say to express her feelings, “I have been receiving threats from radical and cultural groups. But I was simply standing for the fundamental right of a human being, so what if he or she is a homosexual.There are many people in the film industry who are from the sexual minority and they will now be able to come out in the open.Some of the people who have touched my lives were homosexuals. I owe a lot to them.”

Kambakkht Ishq that is expected to do big as assured by its makers, however, had a star studded press meet attended by celebrities like Katrina Kaif, Kareena Kapoor and no doubt big and tall Akshay Kumar was also at the meet to promote the movie. Lux Comedy Honors 2009 results will be announced today on Star Gold. The event has the host Sajid Khan giving the audience a taste of his witty humor. The award for Rising Actor with Comic Excellence will be given to Ranbir Kapoor and Rising Actress with Comic Excellence awarded to Deepika Padukone. Minissha Lamba will present the award to Riteish Deshmukh for Male Performer with Comic Excellence. Kirron Kher gets the award for Female Performer with Comic Excellence. Katrina Kaif receives the Lead Actress with Comic Excellence award and Saif Ali Khan gets it for the Lead Actor with Comic Excellence.
Last Monday Neetu Chandra inaugurated the Geetanjali stores at Bandra, Mumbai. She looked gorgeous in a yellow dress which she carried off quite well. This would be Sridevi’s first appearance in a reality show. However, when Salman invited her for the show she just couldn’t refuse him because she is supposedly a fan of this actor and also because she is the producer of Salman’s next release ‘Wanted’. Yanni is the only artist who has had the honors of giving a concert performance in India’s pride Taj Mahal and our Bollywood sex kitten Mallika Sherawat had the pleasure of meeting this talented music group while she was at the Ivy restaurant in Los Angeles with producers of her first American-Indo film “Hisss”. The actress had been there after being invited as a VIP guest to the Kuala Lumpur film festival to present some of the awards.
There she met the legendary multiple Oscar and Grammy winning music producer Ric Wake and world famous New Age composer Yanni. The duo is on a world tour now and will be performing at LA’s Nokia Theatre on June 23 with their current musical tour de force, “Yanni’s Voices”. Mallika was in talks with them to perform in an upcoming special concert in India. The concert may see Mallika doing a snake goddess dance from “Hisss”.

Kareena was in good mood when the conference began and said to the journalists, “I am open to any kind of film whether it is ‘Jab We Met’, ‘Omkara’, ‘Dev’, ‘Gomaal Returns’ or ‘Kambakkht Ishq’ because all my films are different and if the script and the film demands anything - I am such an actress that I’d do anything for both the script and the film.” However, she also said that she is not prepared to do movies that require her to wear a bikini, as it offends her mother
At this one Punjabi news journalist candidly asked her whether she would go nude for a film. This offended Kareena and raged her so much that she stormed out of the event without uttering a word.
Longines brand ambassador Aishwarya Rai imparted glamour and glitter to the Royal Ascot Race Event at Ascot, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The actress has been quite busy these days but the lady was humble enough to spend her precious time admiring the creations displayed at the ramp in the Royal Ascot Fashion Show and to watch some racing in the afternoon.
The gorgeous star was all praises for the creations and said, “Royal Ascot is absolutely unique, an elegant, quintessentially British occasion. I am very happy to have been invited here by Longines.”
Aishwarya has been the brand ambassador of Longines for more than last 10 years and she also attended the Gala Dinner in the evening at the Farnham castle. After winning the bronze medal for India at Beijing Olympics, boxer Vijender Singh was very much in news for Bipasha Basu expressing her desire to go for a date with the hunk and later when Vijender shook a leg with the dusky Bong beauty at ‘Nach Baliye’.
Now, this time the boxer has turned to exercising his vocal chords for yet another sexy actress on a reality TV show. The lucky damsel is none other than Mallika Sherawat and Vijender crooned for her at Salman Khan’s ‘Dus Ka Dum’ show which was shot last month.
Recalls Vijender, “She is from my state Haryana, so I sang a local folk song for her when Salman asked me and she couldn’t stop laughing at that. It was fun to interact with her.”
Vijender also said that he was surprised by Salman’s knowledge of Indian boxing.
“I was amazed that Salman knew so much about boxing and our boxers. He was very nice and we cracked a lot of jokes. Contrary to his media image, he came across as a good person,” the impressed boxer said.
Meanwhile, we wonder that after Bipasha and Mallika, who would be the next lucky lady and what would the next gesture from the boxer!!
Despite the absence of many top Bollywood stars, the IIFA 2009(International Indian Film Academy) pulled off as a gala event amidst much glamour and glitter. It was a special event for the host Amitabh Bachchan as his wax statue from Madame Tassauds has been unveiled at this ceremony and was displayed there till June 13 after which it was sent back to London.
An overwhelmed Big B said, “I am very happy and I thank Madame Tussauds for considering me worthy of a wax statue. I hope many more from India fraternity join me in the museum.”
Daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai said, “The statue is nice but you can’t beat the original.”
The fashion extravaganza held at Venetian Hotel on June 12 was hosted by celebrity duo Zayed Khan and Sophie Choudhary, who appeared in Manav Gangwani creations. Many Bollywood stars walked the ramp showcasing creations by leading Indian designers Rocky S, Manav Gangwani, Anamika Khanna and Farah Ali Khan — along with a new collection by Hong Kong designer Chris Chang. Hrithik and wife Suzzane Roshan showcased the jewelary by Farah Ali Khan. Sonam Kapoor carried the stylish evening wear by Anamika Khanna with commendable poise. Bipasha Basu appeared in a creation by Rocky S, while Dia Mirza, Dino Morea and Madhavan modeled for Manav Gangwani, and Neil Nitin Mukesh and Mugdha Godse were show-stoppers for Siyaram. As an icing to the cake was the performance by international singing sensation Peter Andre.
The event also saw performance by the host family members Aishwarya and Abhishek Bachchan. Inspite of the absence of beau John Abraham, Bipasha Basu gave a dazzling performance. Nonetheless, IIFA, this year, missed many key players including SRK, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Preity Zinta, Ajay Devgan, and Rani Mukherji to list a few.
This time 10th Annual International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) 2009 seems to pass away without any big Bollywood stars and glitter. According to news, many a big stars have declined to participate in the event on some pretext. Firstly, it was the Shahrukh Khan, who declined from participating, and then Farah Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor and Akshay Kumar expressed their inability to attend the show and declined invitations.
According a close relation to Akshay told, “A family vacation was planned well in advance to coincide with Akshay’s son Aarav’s school holidays. Akshay doesn’t like leaving Aarav behind when he is out of the country. At the same time he doesn’t want his son to miss school. So the annual holiday was planned well in advance. No power on earth, not even IIFA, is going to persuade Akshay to take even a small break from the holiday, let alone break his little boy’s heart.”
Shahid Kapoor has another reason to skip the event as he is over involved due to the releases scheduled ahead this year, he said, “I was looking forward to performing at IIFA and showcasing ‘Kaminey’, however my commitment to my producer has to be honored and I regret being unable to attend this year.”
Though IIFA organizers, anyway, do not need to worry about as BIG B is attending the ceremony and he is a great crowd puller in himself.
