GIMA Awards 2012 held at the YRF Studios, yesterday in Mumbai, was all glamour and glitter with Bollywood biggies making their presence felt at the event. The celebrities who were spotted at the award ceremony were SRK, Ajay Devgan, Saif Ali Khan, Vidya Balan, Parineeti Chopra, Sonakshi Sinha, Vivek Oberoi, Ayushmann Khurrana and Nargis Fakhri.
Shahrukh Khan wrote on Twitter: “Still at work…got a gima award for chamak challo…a compliment for challa…and a hug from mika singh..punjab da day type today.”
This was the third edition of the Global Indian Music Academy (GIMA) Awards and was hosted by Saif Ali Khan and Parineeti Chopra. The show witnessed some power packed performances by Parineeti Chopra, Ajay Devgan, Sonakshi Sinha and Mika Singh. several singers and musicians like A R Rahman, Sonu Nigam, Mika Singh, Anup Jalota, Bappi Lahiri, Hard Kaur, and Himesh Reshammiya graced the event.
The jury from film music included Jatin Pandit, Javed Akhtar, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Kunal Kohli, Prasoon Joshi, Rajiv Kenkre, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Ramesh Sippy, Resul Pookutty, Shaan, Udit Narayan & Vijay Lazarus. Along with them, the non-film music jury consisted of Anup Jalota, Dr. L. Subramaniam, Ehsaan Noorani, Hariharan, Ila Arun, Leslie Lewis, Loy Mendonsa, Pankaj Udhas, Pt. Shivkumar Sharma, Raju Singh, Ram Sampath, Roop Kumar Rathod, Salim Merchant, Shankar Mahadevan, Shantanu Moitra, Shashi Vyas, Suresh Wadkar, Swanand Kirkire, Taufiq Qureshi & Ustad Rashid Khan.
Along with an insight to the awards, various musicians paid a tribute to the musical veterans who passed away recently – namely, Jagjit Singh, Bhupen Hazarika & Mehdi Hassan.
Finally, the list of contestants who will take part in the controversial show ‘Big Boss 6’ is out. The show will be hosted once again by Salman Khan who has played his role perfectly in the earlier seasons and is a popular and apt choice for the same.
The makers of the show have made it sure that the show runs high on the glamour quotient with the participants including the likes of model-turned-actress Sayali Bhagat (who was Miss India World 2004 and last seen with Shiney Ahuja in ‘Ghost’). Another hot celebrity to join the housemates will be match-fixing accused starlet Nupur Mehta who has been all over the gossip columns for her on-off affair with Mohammad Asif. Reportedly, TV actress Aashka Goradia, who was last seen as Kalavati tai in ‘Laagi Tujhse Lagan’ and novelist Shobhaa De will also be a part of ‘Bigg Boss 6′ that will begin from October 7.
Other names to take part in this reality show include controversial spiritual guru Swami Nithyananda, Aamir Khan’s brother Faisal Khan, cricketer turned TV personality Navjot Singh Sidhu and anchor-cum-actor Jay Bhanushali.
To keep the heat soaring, reality TV star and popular international celebrity, Kim Kardashian, will also be a guest at the house.
There could not have been a more valuable click for the shutterbugs when the two yesteryear rivals and perhaps the two best actress-dancers of Bollywood, Madhuri Dixit and Sridevi, shook a leg together on stage at the grand finale of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5, at Filmistan Studios in Mumbai. It was a visual treat to the audience when they performed a dance jugalbandi and danced to each other’s songs. Sridevi was all spirits when she danced to Dhak Dhak Karne Laga and Madhuri was no less on Mere Haathon Main Nau Nau.
Sridevi was on the show to promote her upcoming film English Vinglish! She wrote on Twitter: “Had a lovely time shooting for Jhalak Dikhla Jaa, don’t miss the grand finale on Sunday, 30th September.”
Co-judge Karan Johar also tweeted a picture of himself with Sri and Madhuri and sure enough, he got an instant reaction from Dabangg girl Sonakshi Sinha who wrote: @kjohar25 oh that’s a classic shot!!”
Actress Esha Gupta is still a new comer in Bollywood with only one release uptil now in ‘Jannat 2’. She is busy these days with the promotions of ‘Raaz 3’ and has next Prakash Jha’s ‘Chakravyuh’ in her kitty.
Recently, the starlet was spotted on the sets of ‘Laugh India Laugh’ for the promotions of ‘Raaz 3’. Here she confessed to be a huge fan of comedy films.
“I like comedies. My favourite film till date is `Andaz Apna Apna` and I remember each dialogue of the film,” the 27-year-old said on the sets of comedy show “Laugh India Laugh”.
Meanwhile, ‘Raaz 3’ will not be released in UAE as the Censor Board of the group of seven emirates has banned the film from being released there because of some sexually explicit scenes and the portrayal of the spiritual world.
Vijay Singh, CEO of Fox Star, producer and distributors of the film confirms the news and states, “The board has an issue with the film over its adult content. But we are in talks with them right now.”
Priyanka Chopra will get the honor of being the featured artist for Thursday Night Kickoff – the pregame show for NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football. The National Football League (NFL) is the highest level of professional American football in the United States, and is considered the top professional American football league in the world. Priyanka’s debut single “In My City,’ featuring will.i.am and produced by RedOne (Lady Gaga) and Brian Kennedy, will be the music bed for the intro to Thursday Night Kickoff.
“It’s been an honor working with the NFL Network to create such a fantastic launch for my debut single,” said Priyanka. “I’m really thrilled to bring my music and a touch of India to America and its football fans”
“We’re excited to showcase Priyanka’s talent and worldwide appeal to millions of NFL fans across the United States,” said NFL Network Executive Producer Eric Weinberger. “In My City will set the perfect tone for Thursday Night Kickoff which leads into each of the 13 primetime Thursday Night Football games on NFL Network.”

They gave our industry a blockbuster film ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’ to be cherished for decades to come. Talking about Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit, the duo have worked together in a number of films like ‘Saajan’ and ‘Dil Tera Aashiq’. The two came together once again on the sets of ‘Jhalak Dikhla Jaa 5’ and the audience would swear by the fact that they still look great together.
Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif came up on the sets of Jhalak to promote their ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ which released this Independence Day. While Katrina was her usual quiet self, Salman and Madhuri had great fun together. Salman even used a catapult and aimed at Madhuri’s derriere just the way he did in Didi Tera Deewana, and the duo danced together to Pehla Pehla Pyaar from the blockbuster HAHK.
After sometime, Katrina Kaif also joined the two stars. Salman joined his ex- girlfriend while she showed her moves on her superhit item number ‘Sheila Ki Jawani’.
Aamir Khan’s ambitious television show ‘Satyamev Jayate’ completed its 3 week journey on television and came to an end this Sunday with a hope to have stirred the conscience of the nation and a hope to make a difference in the days to come.
Aamir’s talk show focussed on several burning issues of our society ranging from female foeticide, child sex abuse, medical malpractice, manual scavenging and dowry. Aamir also took pains off-screen to deal with the issues further. He met Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot to request the creation of a fast track court to decide the cases of the doctors, none of who have been penalised in the female foeticide cases.
“When India’s leaders envisaged building a new nation after independence, the constitution was the foundation stone of this endeavour. We had resolved to establish a sovereign, secular, democratic republic with justice, liberty, equality and fraternity for all. After 65 years of Independence, are we actually living up to those principles,” Aamir asked.
The final episode appreciated and brought to limelight the contribution of The Sarvodaya Trust in giving shelter to both Hindu and Muslim children after the 2001 devastating earthquake in Gujarat , the contribution of Sunitha Krishnan in rehabilitating prostitutes and rape victims through her anti-trafficking organisation Prajwala and also the efforts of Naseema Hurzuk, a wheelchair bound lady who runs Helpers Of The Handicapped, an organisation helps disabled.
Superhit telly show ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi’ and Bollywood’s Khiladi Akshay Kumar have been going along quite well for its past seasons. However, this season Akshay will not be able to host the show as his wife Twinkle Khanna is expecting her second baby and Akki does not want to compromise on his fatherly duties.
With Akshay Kumar out of the boat, the makers were left with two other choices of John Abraham and Ajay Devgan. Unforunately, John is keeping busy these days with his forthcoming ‘Shootout At Wadala’, ‘Race 2’, ‘Happy New Year’ and Shoojit Sircar’s next. With no dates to spare, he refused to be a part of the show.
So, now the upcoming fifth season of ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi’ will have Ajay Devgan as the host. Ajay made his entry into Bollywood as a pure action hero with ‘Phool Aur Kaante’ and he could accommodate the dates for the show.
Aamir Khan is raising sensitive social issues with his show ‘Satyamev Jayate’. His first episode was based on female infanticide and next he deals with the horrifying real life experiences of sexual abuse by children.
This episode of the show brought into limelight heart breaking story of Harish Aiyer, who he was abused by a man for 11 years. Harish revealed that when he tried to confide in his mother, she didn’t take him seriously. He could handle this horrific phase of his life through the sheer support of his dog and Bollywood movies, especially the ones starring Sridevi.
And what could be a better gift to Harish than make him meet his adorable actress, Sridevi herself. Sridevi made a special appearance on the show for Harish and also gave him a special gift. Harish was obviously elated to meet his favourite star whose screen presence gave him a relief from his tragic life.
There were also other victims on the show. The show was concluded with Aamir explaining the Good Touch, Bad Touch to children to help them evade sexual abuse and to recognize their predators. The actor also appealed to people to press the government to pass the Protection of Children From Sexual Offences Bill in parliament.
With passing years, Madhuri Dixit’s charms and dancing prowess seem to getting more and more polished and mesmerizing. As the diva gears up for the fifth season of ‘Jhalak Dikhla Jaa’, she has shot a special promo for the show under the direction of ace choreographer Saroj Khan. Paying her tribute to yesteryear’s iconic Bollywood actresses, Madhuri dances to the tunes of some of the hit numbers of Meena Kumari, Mumtaz and Sridevi.
She looks as convincing as ever as she moves with grace to the popular thumri track ‘Thade Rahiyo’ from Pakeezah. Then she is seen in a figure-hugging, 70s-style, tight, peach-coloured churidaar salwar kameez as she dances to Mumtaz popular number ‘Motiyon Ki Ladee Hoon Main”. The one which really impressed us is her homage to Sridevi in a yellow saree in the evergreen song ‘Kaate Nahin Katatey’ from Mr. India.

The third season of ‘Dance India Dance’ on Zee TV ended with Odissa girl Rajasmita Kar walking away with the winning title. An all elated 21 year old Rajasmita said, “I feel like a star. People are clicking my pictures and want to know more about me. I used to watch all this happening to people on TV but now people are watching me.”
“I am so happy. I never thought my ‘DID’ journey would shape up like this and I will be giving interviews and sharing my experience. It feels great,” she added.
Apart from taking away the title, Kar got a Maruti Ertiga car, a house by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and a cheque of Rs.3 lakh from the Rourkela Steel Plant.
Talking about her future plans, Rajasmita said, “I would like to become the best dancer of the industry just like my idol Sridevi and then train young children.”
Talking about her co-contestants on the show, she says, “My co-contestants were very friendly and infact we all lived like a family. There was no ill feeling or bad vibes due to the competition. And coming to ‘DID’ was a dream come true for me and I will always cherish the time I spent here.”
Even as the fifth season of Big Boss ends with Juhi Parmar emerging as the winner amidst much glamour, glitter and performances, the co-host Salman Khan expresses his intention to return with the next season of Big Boss. On the Bigg Boss 5 sets at Karjat, the actor said that he would love to return for the next season of the show.
“It’s still a couple of months away. I don’t know what the channel is thinking. But I love this show. And if they really want me back, I will make time for them,” he said.
His co-host Sanjay Dutt, however, doesn’t sound as confident about returning to the show that launched him on the small screen “I have my options open. This show made me realise the kind of audience connect TV has. And I’d like to connect with the viewers again, even if it’s not through this show.”
