Sri Devi was born in the small town of Sivakasi in Tamil Nadu but her hopes were always high. Sridevi is one name that symbolizes sensuality and persona. She has been the undoubted Queen of Bollywood in the era of the 90’s, with performances that took the Hindi film industry to a higher levels of film making standards.

Born to the Ayyappan family on the 13th of August 1963, Sri has a sister Srilatha and a brother Satish. She began acting from the tender age of three and has done hundreds of films in Hindi, Tamil, Telegu and Malayalam. Some of her Malayalam films that gave her tremendous recognition are “Kuttavum Sikshaiyum”, “Aalinganam” and “Aa Nimisham”. Her first big break came in 1976 with the film “Moondru Mudichu” where she starred opposite Kamal Hasan.

Sridevi’s foray into Hindi films was a much awaited affair. She debuted in “Solvaan Saawan” in 1978 but the film flopped at the box office. Thus Sridevi’s taste of stardom came with “Himmatwala” in 1983. since then, she has never looked back.

An array of films followed from 1985 to 1995, which made Sri the no. 1 heroine of her times. Some of them were “Mr. India”, “Chaalbaaz”, “Khuda Gawah”, “Nagina” and “Gumrah”. Yash Chopra’s “Chandni”, “Lamhe” and Boney Kapoor’s “Judaai” got Sri unprecedented success. She got a number of Filmfare awards for her extraordinary performances. She was titled “Miss Hawa Hawaii” after “Mr India” released. Her comic performances added with the Charlie Chaplin style, has been Sridevi’s most unforgettable moment in her entire acting career.

In 1996, this powerhouse of talent married film maker Boney Kapoor. Today she is blessed with two daughters Jhanvi and Khushi and spends good amount of time with them.

The magic of Sridevi has remained even without her presence in Bollywood for almost a decade. She is a member of the Board of Directors at the Asian Academy of film and television. If sources are to be believed, very soon we might see this dancing queen back in Bollywood!
